The nexus approach to cope with adaptation to climate change, has gained terrain around the world in the past years, for better representing and including the interactions among different elements in nature.

The WEF + Forest and Land restoration

This new suggested approach, recognizes the “role of forests in sustainable development, and engagement of local communities in nature-based solutions… and can help to accelerate the pace and magnitude of changes needed for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”. In this way, forest are added to the traditional Water-Energy-Food approach, communly used in development projects.

Who else is using this approach?

A good example are the activities carried out by the German NGO, TU eMpower Africa e.V. (TUMA), through their AgroForestry Team. They are introducing this new approach to their traditional WEF nexus ongoing projects in Rwanda and Zimbabwe, with a dedicated pilot project on Agroforestry in Ghana.
