During this event we will continue the work with ASORALAC Strengthen links established now with the Corporación Autónoma Regional de Boyacá - CORPOBOYACÁ within the PROCEDA (Community-Based Projects on Environmental Education ) framework.
Our work is targeting key ecosystem services for Colombia in terms of biodiversity, carbon storage, and water regulation in the tropical Andes, the water factory of the country. These tropical High-Mountain ecosystem are one of the 17 ecosystems classified as Endangered(EN), and specifically in the Altiplano Cundi-Boyacense,where activities take place, is one out of 20 classified as Critical(CR) by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature).
Moreover, the Andes region hosts over 70% of Colombia’s population, requiring activities that positively integrate its growing population with its surrounding ecosystems. Therefore, it is important to minimize the impact of traditional monoculture and cattle farming established and expanding, especially above 2500 m.a.s.l., where ecosystems regenerate at a lower pace than in lower lands.
During this period we plan to conduct several workshops generating some guidelines too that support the work and opens new possibilities on the region to share the knowledge built, as follows:
Introduce and apply Open-Source tools for data management, Geo-Reference, Social cartography using ASOLAC’s own data (1 Workshop - 1 Guide).
Introduce and apply Open-Source tools for data management, Geo-Reference, Social cartography using ASOLAC’s own data (1 Workshop - 1 Guide).
Introduce Silvo-pastoril and Agroforestry techniques using native plants growing on Tropical High-Mountain ecosystems (1 On-field Workshop - 1 Guide)
We will have several members of GUA·QUYE participating during these weeks, also a Volunteer Architect will join us besides people from ASORALAC and CORPOBOYACÁ.
